The American International School of Muscat is located in Muscat, Oman. The school was developed in 1998 by the Embassy of the United States, the Ministry of Education of the Sultanate of Oman, the Office of Overseas Schools of the United States Department of State, and a group of parents and business leaders.
The student body is around 600 students from 53 nationalities with Americans being the largest group.

The campus is 71,000 square meters and includes 72 classrooms, 3 computer labs, 4 visual arts studios, libraries, art and music rooms, a performance center, a full size gym, 4 science labs and a swimming pool and sports fields.
Curriculum
TAISM offers and international education using an American curriculum and methodologies. The school is organized in the usual American manner with Elementary, Middle and High Schools. An Early Childhood program is part of the Elementary School. The Middle School uses an interdisciplinary approach. High School students can take a variety of AP courses including biology, calculus, chemistry, English literature, Government and Politics, French, Studio Art.
Extra-curricular Activities
TAISM has an extensive after school program. Some of the activities are: swimming, kickball, crafts, outdoor games, basketball, band, Model United Nations and much more.

TAISM has three state-of-the-art labs.

About Muscat and Oman
Muscat is one of the oldest cities in the Middle East. The city is a center of trade, primarily dates, mother of pearl, and fish. About half of the country’s population lives in Muscat which is approximately 630,000.
Oman has a large oil industry. Oman is officially known as the Sultanate of Oman. Oman is a primarily Muslim country and has been since the time of the Prophet. The Portuguese occupied Oman for 140 years. Later the British had heavy influence in the country.
The country is generally considered to be moderate and has had US bases that were used during the Gulf War and the war in Afghanistan. While the ruler is a hereditary sultan, there are elections and the country has three women ministers in the government. Arabic is the main language, although English, Hindu, Urdu, Swahili, and a number of other languages are also spoken. Islam is the majority religion; non-Muslims are allowed to practice their religion, but may not proselytize. There are two Hindu temples and a number of churches located in Muscat. Alcohol is served in major hotels and restaurants.
