The Country Day School is a private, co-educational day, college preparatory day school that provides educational services for students from Daycare to Grade 12. It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Costa Rican Ministry of education. CDS was founded in 1963. CDS also runs a boarding school about 160 miles northwest of San Jose for students from Grade 8 through Grade 12.
Country Day School has over 900 students with small class sizes that range from 8 to 20 students.
Mission
The school mission is to serve an international student population with an American-style education that also prepares students for the Costa Rican Bachillerato Examinations.
Facilities
The school has an 8-acre campus in the suburbs of San Jose. Facilities include modern classrooms, 2 libraries, a several multimedia centers, 3 computer labs with Macs and PCs, a large gym, a cafeteria-auditorium, science labs, sports fields, 3 art rooms and a swimming pool
Curriculum
CDS uses a United States-based curriculum. The school uses standards and benchmarks to support that curriculum. Graduates receive an American High School Diploma and are prepared to take the Costa Rican Bachillerato Examinations. The school offers a variety of AP courses for students planning on attending universities in the United States.
Extracurricular Activities
The school offers a wide variety of after school activities at all levels. Activities include clubs, arts and crafts, theater, Senior Honor Society, yearbook, school newspaper, basketball, soccer, volleyball and more.
Technology
The school has a wireless network. The 3 computer labs have computers with both Mac and Windows operating systems.

Employment
CDS wants teachers that are experienced, dedicated, motivated, flexible and patient. Teaching candidates need a college degree, 2 years experience, a teaching credential and a familiarity with American curriculum. Job openings are listed online. A job application is available online. Initial contracts are for two years.
Salaries are subject to Costa Rican taxes. Benefits include a relocation allowance, furnished housing, round trip airfare, shipping allowance and medical insurance.

The city has a number of museums including the Museo del Jade that has a large collection of Pre-Columbian jade and the Museo Oro Precolombino that has a large collection of Pre-Columbian gold work. For teachers who love nightlife, the city has many restaurants, bars and clubs.
