The Good Hope School is an independent, nonsectarian, non-profit, co-educational day school that provides educational services for students from Pre-K through Grade 12. It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and was founded in 1967.
Mission
The school’s mission is to provide students with rigorous college preparatory curriculum that will help them to become critical, creative thinkers and responsible global citizens.
Facilities
The school has two campuses on the island of St. Croix. The main 32-acre campus has 10 buildings that include multi-purpose rooms, a 5,000 square foot library, 3 computer labs, a 300-seat theater, a swimming pool, athletic facilities, playgrounds, art and music rooms and regular classrooms. The second campus is dedicated to the Early Childhood program and has classrooms and an outdoor playground.
Curriculum
GHS uses a college preparatory integrated curriculum that follows the traditional U.S. model for a college prep school. The school is organized into a Lower School, Middle School and Upper School. Younger students have the usual “core classes” with a homeroom teacher, and specialist classes like computer and art with specialists. The size of the school and its organization lead students from all grade levels to interact with each other so that the school has a strong feeling of community.
Extracurricular Activities
The school offers a range of clubs and activities including music, art, drama, Future Business Leaders of America, student government, and sports such as soccer, volleyball, softball, tennis and swimming.
Technology
The school offers computer classes as part of the regular curriculum. 3 computer labs are used for available around campus.
Professional Development
No information is available on PD activities at the Good Hope School.
Employment
GHS wants committed, experienced teachers who have a good sense of humor and are flexible. Teacher candidates should support the school’s mission. Interested teachers can send a cover letter and resume to the school along with an employment application that is available online. These can be sent to humanresources@ghsvi.org. Openings are listed online. No information is available on salaries and benefits.
