Yangon International School
Yangon International School was established in 2004. It is a private, college preparatory, coeducational day school that provides educational services for students from grades K-12. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
There are approximately 250 students enrolled at YIS. They are predominately from the United States, Myanmar, Australia and Korea. There is a teaching staff of 35. Teachers come from the United States, Canada, Britain, Russia, New Zealand, and Myanmar.
Mission
The mission of YIS is to nurture and develop a child who is rounded and has strengths and skills in the academic, social, and personal realms and who is also culturally sensitive.
Facilities
YIS has a landscaped campus with air-conditioned, large classrooms; a large gym; a swimming pool; a playground; a soccer field; a multi-purpose room; a library; science, art, computer and music labs.
Curriculum
The school uses an American curriculum. Instruction is in English. Students take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Many of the school materials come from the United States. Students in Grades K-10 take Myanmar culture classes. YIS has ESL for students that require help with their English language skills.
Extra-Curricular Activities
YIS has many extra-curricular activities. These include: soccer, basketball, swimming, volleyball, table tennis, music, arts and crafts, clubs and social activities.
