The American School of Brasilia (Escola Americana de Brasilia) was opened in 1964 and is a private, college preparatory, co-educational day school providing educational services for students from K-3 through grade 12. EAB is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is authorized to offer the IB Diploma by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
EAB has approximately 600 students that represent 38 nationalities.
Mission
The American School of Brasilia provides a college-preparatory, U.S. based education for students from the international and Brazilian communities and works to help students succeed academically and become responsible global citizens.
Facilities
EAB is situated on a five-acre campus overlooking Lake Paranoa. The school has a Library Media Center, 3 computer labs, a playground, a gym, a canteen and cafeteria, 50 classrooms, 4 science labs, a Center for the Arts, basketball courts, a soccer field and tennis courts.
Curriculum
EAB uses a standards-based curriculum similar to those in the United States. The curriculum is designed to meet the academic, physical, social and emotional needs of the student body. The integrated curriculum culminates in U.S., Brazilian and/or IB Diplomas. EAB uses English as the language of instruction. Standardized testing is used at EAB and includes the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, the PSAT, and the SAT. Advanced Placement classes are offered to high school students. EAB also offers the Advanced Services Program for high-end academic students. The EAB curriculum is online.
Extra-curricular Activities
The school offers a wide variety of activities for students of all ages. Some of the activities include: Portuguese and English, volleyball, soccer, cheerleading, music, arts, Model United Nations, National Honor Society and Junior National Honor Society, computers, special interest clubs, student government, debate, and much more. EAB is a member of a league of ten international and American schools that sponsor competitions in sports such as swimming, basketball, and soccer among others.
EAB integrates technology throughout the curriculum. Elementary teachers teach their own technology classes in the computer lab while students in Middle School and High School have technology classes with a specialist computer teacher. The school has 178 computers throughout the campus with a wireless network. Some classes have smartboards. Teachers are trained how to use technology in their classrooms.
Professional Development
EAB is a school that is distinguished by their commitment to professional development. PD takes the form of international conferences, training within Brasil, and on-site professional development activities. International conferences included the AASSA conference, the NSTA conference, and the NAEYC conference. A number of training opportunities are also available around Brasil. Additionally, the school sponsors on-site activities such as using the school’s own consultants, curriculum development work with the faculty, culture workshops and TA training.

EAB lists open teaching positions on their website. The school wants dedicated teachers who are caring, energetic team players. About Brasilia
Brasilia is the capital of Brazil and was planned to be a city built around modernist themes. It has about 2.5 million residents and is located in the midwestern region of Brazil. The city is a World Heritage Site.
Temperatures are moderate and generally stay between 17 and 28 degrees Celsius (63 to 82 degrees Farenheit). The city can get very dry during the dry season of August and September.
Brasilia is not known for either its restaurants or nightlife, although there are venues for both local and international cuisines. Brasilia is perhaps best known for its modernist architecture including the Palace of Justice and the Brasilia Cathedral.
