Colegio Karl C. Parrish

Colegio Karl C. Parrish is a private, non-profit, co-educational day school for international and national students from Preschool to Grade 12. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Colombian Ministry of Education. The school was founded in 1938. KCP has over 700 students.

Mission
The school mission is to provided a bi-national, multicultural, bilingual curriculum that will enable students to become responsible and ethical global citizens who are prepared for the challenges of the future.

Facilities
The KCP campus is 22 acres and includes a Reggio-style Preschool area, 50 plus air-conditioned classrooms, playgrounds, sports fields, a library with over 20,000 volumes, a 465-seat auditorium, a swimming pool, a gym, the Model United Nations, National Honor Society, 4 science labs, 2 cafeterias and 4 computer labs.

Curriculum
KCP uses a bilingual, bi-national, multicultural curriculum that draws on the best of the United States and Columbia. Graduates receive an American High School Diploma and the Colombian Bachillerato Diploma. The school offers Advanced Placement courses and gives the PSAT and the SAT.

Extracurricular Activities
The school has a full activities program for students in all grades including art, drama, music, sports, and community service.

Technology
In addition to the four computer labs, each classroom has a computer, an LCD projector and a mimio board.

Professional Development
The school has a professional development fund that teachers can access. PD activities take place at the school throughout the year.

Employment
The school has 23 expat teachers, mostly from the United States. KCP wants dedicated, qualified and experienced teachers who will enjoy working in an open and collegial environment. Teachers at KCP need to have a BA, teaching certification and at least two years teaching experience. The school has a recruitment video online. Faculty have until January to declare their intentions for the next school year, so the school lists new openings after that.The school attends the major recruitment fairs like ISS and Northern Iowa. Interested teachers can send a letter of interest and a resume to the Director at mail@kcparrish.edu.co. The school will notify teachers who fit the school’s needs and arrange for interviews either at the school, a recruiting fair or via Skype.

While salaries are not given, the website says that many teachers can save over $10,000 per year. Salaries are subject to Colombian taxes. Benefits include annual airfare, health insurance, visas, furnished housing, excess baggage allowance, a cost-of-living allowance during the second year of the contract, free club membership, PD funds and tuition for dependents.

About Barranquilla
Barranquilla is only three hours from Miami. It has a population of around 2 million and is located on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Western goods are readily available at the many shopping centers that are found around the city. Among the activities that teachers enjoy are dancing, hiking, swimming, tennis, golf, going to movies and the theater. Barranquilla has an active nightlife with many bars and nightclubs. And, it has Carnaval de Barranquilla four days before Ash Wednesday.

The Columbus School, Colombia

The Columbus School was founded in 1947. The school provides educational services for students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The Columbus School is accredited by SACS-CASI.

There are approximately 1,500 students studying at Columbus; 98% of the students are Columbians.

Mission
The mission of the school is to help students become critical thinkers who are responsible, self-directed and have a global perspective.

Medellin Colombia

Facilities
The Columbus School has a 22 hectare campus on the outskirts of Medellin. The school is designed for a 21st Century education. Facilities include 6 soccer fields, 4 athletic fields, 3 volleyball and basketball courts, a softball diamond, a BMX track, an athletic track, modern school buildings, a Fine Arts building, a 273-seat theater, an art gallery, 4 computer labs, 8 science labs and 2 libraries.

Curriculum
The Columbus School is organized into three schools: Elementary School, Middle School and High School. The school uses an American-based university preparatory curriculum. Students can graduate with an American High School diploma and the Columbian Baccalaureate. High School students can take AP classes.

Extracurricular Activities
The school offers a wide range of activities including arts and crafts, sports, and academic activities.

Technology
The school has four computer labs. Unfortunately, the school website doesn’t say anything else about their technology program.

Professional Development
Teachers are expected to be committed to professional development. They have an option to study for a Master’s degree through the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Employment
Most of the foreign teachers are from the United States and Canada. The school attends several international recruitment fairs. Teachers are expected to be committed to excellence, work well as part of a team, and be engaged in continuous professional development. Qualifications include at least a Bachelor’s degree, certification and two-years experience. Benefits include housing and annual home leave after the end of the initial two-year contract. About Medellin
Medellin is the capital of the department of Antioquia and has a population of 2.4 million people. The city is located in the valley of Aburra and sits at an altitude of 5,046 feet above sea level. The average temperature is a cool 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

Medellin has a modern infrastructure with an excellent mass transit system. The city has a great nightlife with restaurants, bars and clubs. Medellin has a number of museums including the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Antioquia. Tourism in Medellin has developed over the past decade; this includes medical tourism as Medellin is known for its medical facilities.

Colegio Nueva Granada was founded in 1938. it is a private, co-educational day school that provides educational services for students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, as well as the Colombian Ministry of Education.

CNG has about 1,800 students that represent 40 nationalities. The average class size is 22. There are 223 faculty members, all of which are certified.

Mission
The CNG mission is to prepare students to become future leaders through an education that prepares them physically, morally and intellectually.

Facilities
The school has a 10-hectare campus in Bogota. Among the facilities are: 3 libraries, 4 art rooms, a photography lab, 3 music rooms, 4 computer labs, 8 science labs, 2 gyms, 5 sports areas, 2 playground areas, a cafeteria, a theater, 2 multipurpose rooms, an infirmary and a bookstore.

Curriculum
CNG is a college preparatory school that uses a U.S.-based curriculum. The school has four divisions: Primary School, Elementary School, Middle School and High School. Students can graduate with a High School Diploma or the Colombian Bachillerato diploma. AP courses are offered for High School students. The school offers support for students with learning disabilities and special needs.

Extracurricular Activities
CNG offers a wide variety of activities that occur during the school day and after school. Among the activities are drama, dance, band, choir, arts and crafts, mountain biking, martial arts, baseball, basketball, student newspaper and much more. The school is a member of the Union de Colegios Internacionales, which is an association of international and bilingual schools in Bogota and Colombia. CNG also sponsors a number of social projects.

Technology
The school has four computer labs.

Professional Development
Teachers participate in curriculum development activities. They also can take educational courses through the school’s partnership with the University of Alabama and Lehigh University, as well as Universidad UNICA in Bogota.

About Bogota
Bogota is the capital of Colombia and the fourth largest city in South America. It has a population of over 7 million. The city has a pleasant climate, but it has a pollution problem due to its altitude and the number of motor vehicles and other sources of air pollution. Bogota is an easy city to walk around, and it has become much safer over the past decade. It has a temperate climate, many restaurants, clubs, live music venues, museums, and other attractions like bullfights for those who enjoy that Hemingwayesque sport.
