Colegio Karl C. Parrish is a private, non-profit, co-educational day school for international and national students from Preschool to Grade 12. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Colombian Ministry of Education. The school was founded in 1938. KCP has over 700 students.
Mission
The school mission is to provided a bi-national, multicultural, bilingual curriculum that will enable students to become responsible and ethical global citizens who are prepared for the challenges of the future.
The KCP campus is 22 acres and includes a Reggio-style Preschool area, 50 plus air-conditioned classrooms, playgrounds, sports fields, a library with over 20,000 volumes, a 465-seat auditorium, a swimming pool, a gym, the Model United Nations, National Honor Society, 4 science labs, 2 cafeterias and 4 computer labs.
Curriculum
KCP uses a bilingual, bi-national, multicultural curriculum that draws on the best of the United States and Columbia. Graduates receive an American High School Diploma and the Colombian Bachillerato Diploma. The school offers Advanced Placement courses and gives the PSAT and the SAT.
Extracurricular Activities
The school has a full activities program for students in all grades including art, drama, music, sports, and community service.
Technology
In addition to the four computer labs, each classroom has a computer, an LCD projector and a mimio board.
Professional Development
The school has a professional development fund that teachers can access. PD activities take place at the school throughout the year.
Employment
The school has 23 expat teachers, mostly from the United States. KCP wants dedicated, qualified and experienced teachers who will enjoy working in an open and collegial environment. Teachers at KCP need to have a BA, teaching certification and at least two years teaching experience. The school has a recruitment video online. Faculty have until January to declare their intentions for the next school year, so the school lists new openings after that.The school attends the major recruitment fairs like ISS and Northern Iowa. Interested teachers can send a letter of interest and a resume to the Director at mail@kcparrish.edu.co. The school will notify teachers who fit the school’s needs and arrange for interviews either at the school, a recruiting fair or via Skype.
While salaries are not given, the website says that many teachers can save over $10,000 per year. Salaries are subject to Colombian taxes. Benefits include annual airfare, health insurance, visas, furnished housing, excess baggage allowance, a cost-of-living allowance during the second year of the contract, free club membership, PD funds and tuition for dependents.
About Barranquilla
Barranquilla is only three hours from Miami. It has a population of around 2 million and is located on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Western goods are readily available at the many shopping centers that are found around the city. Among the activities that teachers enjoy are dancing, hiking, swimming, tennis, golf, going to movies and the theater. Barranquilla has an active nightlife with many bars and nightclubs. And, it has Carnaval de Barranquilla four days before Ash Wednesday.
