The International Community School of Abidjan is an independent, co-educational day school the provides educational services for students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. It was established in 1972 and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Council of International Schools. The school is sponsored by the American Embassy.
ICSA has 124 students that represent 25 nationalities. There are 15 full-time faculty members; 10 are U.S. citizens.
Mission
The school’s mission is to help students become independent critical thinkers and global citizens.
The campus is located in a 5,000 square meter villa complex in Abidjan. The school consists of three two-story buildings with facilities that include 11 classrooms, a science lab, a science room, an ESL classroom, a library/IT center, art and music rooms, a canteen/assembly room, a basketball court and an area for soccer and volleyball.
Curriculum
ICSA follows an American-style university preparatory approach that uses AERO (American Education Reaches Out) standards and benchmarks. The American curriculum has been modified to fit the international character of the school. Lessons are delivered in English, but French is taught at all grade levels.
Extracurricular Activities
The school offers a variety of after school activities that include Student Council, soccer, peer tutoring, chess, basketball and more.
Technology
The school has a library/IT center with Windows-based computers. Computer classes are taught as part of the regular curriculum.

About Abidjan
Abidjan is the former capital of Cote d”Ivoire; it has a population of around 4 million and is the economic center of the country. It is the second largest city in West Africa. Abidjan has a tropical monsoon climate; the rainy season runs from May through July and September through November. The city has suffered from the political problems of the country and many of the expats have left. However, there are still many restaurants and bars for teachers to enjoy. Abidjan is known throughout Africa for its nightlife.
