The Uruguayan American School is a private, non-profit, co-educational day school that provides educational services for students from Nursery through Grade 12. UAS was founded in 1958 and is accredited by AdvancED and the Uruguayan Ministry of Education.
The school has approximately 300 students representing more than 35 nationalities. Teachers come from the United States, Canada, Uruguay, England, Australia and Brazil.
MissionThe school mission is to prepare students for future studies by providing them with a US curriculum that stresses excellence and diversity, as well as meeting individual needs.
Facilities
UAS has a 3-hectare campus in the Montevideo suburb of Carrasco. Facilities include computer labs, an elementary wing, a secondary wing, a science lab, a gym, a library, a music room, playgrounds, an auditorium, an athletic field and a cafeteria.
Curriculum
UAS has a U.S.-style college preparatory curriculum. The school uses standardized tests for students from Grade 2 to Grade 12. Advanced Placement courses are offered for high school students.
Extracurricular Activities
The school offers a variety of activities including Portuguese, dance, chess, book clubs, karate, cooking, and sports. Senior students can participate on competitive athletic teams such as volleyball, soccer, and basketball. The teams compete in the South American Athletic Conference.

About Montevideo
Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay and is located on the southern coast of the country. It is the political, financial and cultural center of the country. The Montevideo metropolitan area has a population of approximately 1.8 million, which is about half of the country’s population.
