The British School of Tashkent is an independent, co-educational day school and a member of the British Schools Group. The school provides educational services for students from Pre-nursery to Year 3 (children from age 2 through age 7). BST was founded in 2010 so this is a very new school that is looking forward to expanding each year.
FacilitiesBST has a state-of-the-art facility just north of the center of Tashkent. Facilities include a swimming pool, a dance studio, excellent technology resources, playgrounds, a library, music rooms, a multipurpose hall, an art studio, a canteen and well-equipped classrooms.
Curriculum
The school uses the English National Curriculum that is modified for an international student body. The primary school uses a cross-curricular topic-based approach. All students take Russian language classes. For the art teacher who wanted to know about schools that hire art teachers – this is one of them. BST has two departments: Pre-Nursery/Nursery and Reception.
Extracurricular Activities
The British School of Tashkent has an after school program that includes sports, music, drama and a variety of clubs.
Technology
Technology is integrated throughout the curriculum. BST has interactive whiteboards in all classes, a digital library and a purpose-built technology suite. The school has a campus-wide Wi-Fi system.
Professional Development
The school supports professional development activities for both the international and local teaching staff. BST strongly supports developing local teaching talent by using their international teaching staff as a resource.
Employment
BST has a teaching staff made up of British and local teachers. The school wants teachers wo have either a Bachelor of Education Degree or the PGCE. Teaching candidates should also have experience with Early Years or Key Stage One. The website doesn’t publish their salary schedule, but it does note that salaries are competitive and tax-free. Among the benefits are medical insurance, housing, free Russian or Uzbek language lessons and an annual flight allowance. Teachers who are interested in working at the British School of Tashkent should send a recent photo, a letter of application and a CV to headmaster@britishschool.uz. About Tashkent
The school website has an excellent information booklet for prospective teachers that details life in Tashkent. It sounds like a fascinating place that I would love to life in for a few years.
