Dresden International School is an independent, co-educational, non-profit day school for students from Early Years through Grade 12. DIS is accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The school opened in 1996. It has over 500 students that represent 40 nationalities. DIS is an IB World School.
Mission
The school mission is to give students an superior international education based on the IB that will allow students to develop their potentials.
The school has libraries. The Pre-Kindergarten building has a library, cafeteria, classrooms, specialist sports rooms, and a playground. The Primary School has their own building with a library, cafeteria, computer lab, sports hall, playground and purpose-built classrooms. The Secondary School students are housed in the Annen Campus and have a library, cafeteria, a new sports hall, 3 science labs, 2 computer labs, and purpose-built classrooms.
Curriculum
Students from the age of 3 on use the Early Years Program which is part of the IB Program. The Primary Years Program is used with students from the ages of 5 through 11. Students from Grade 6 through Grade 10 use the MYP, and students in Grade 11 and Grade 12 take the IB Diploma Program.
Extracurricular Activities
The school offers a variety of after school activities for students from Kindergarten on up. Activities include basketball, drumming, climbing, orchestra, Model United Nations, chess, drama, art club, and sports clubs among others.
Technology
DIS integrates technology throughout the curriculum.
Professional Development
Teachers take part in professional development activities focused around the IB programs.
Employment
DIS is looking for teachers who are committed to inquiry-based learning, have an interest in the German language and culture, have experience working with ESL students, are computer literature and have at least two years teaching experience. Jobs are listed online. DIS advertises openings in TIE online, the CIS and Search Associates websites. They do most of their interviews via Skype. About Dresden
Dresden is the capital of the Free State of Saxony. The city has a population of around 500,000. Dresden is located on the Elbe River and is close to the Czech border. Among the sites of interest for a new teacher are the Saxon State Opera, the Museum of Ethnology, the Dresden State Art Collections and the Dresden Castle. As you might expect, Dresden has many restaurants, bars and clubs.
