Munich International School is an independent, co-educational school that provides educational services for students from age 4 to 18. It was founded in 1966. MIS is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools. MIS is an IB World School with authorization to use all three IB programmes.

The school mission is to provide an excellent education for “globally-minded” students.
Facilities
MIS has a 26-acre campus with a castle as its centerpiece near Lake Starnberg. Facilities included modern classrooms, large gyms, 2 libraries, an auditorium, a cafeteria, science labs, art and music rooms, tennis courts, a performing arts centre, sports fields, playgrounds, and a farm and garden. The three sections of the school have their own buildings.
Curriculum
The school has three sections: the Junior School, the Middle School and the Senior School. All lessons are delivered in English. MIS is an IB World School and use the IB framework for the school curriculum.
Extracurricular Activities
MIS has a wide range of extracurricular activities. These include choir, band, dance, debate, yearbook, ceramics, sports and community service. The Middle School and Senior School athletic teams participate in competitions around Europe.
Technology
MIS has made a commitment to using technology to advance student learning. Technology is integrated throughout the curriculum. The school has a 1:1 laptop program for students in Grade 7 to Grade 12. Each student is given a MacBook to use during the school year. Teachers are also given MacBooks.
Professional Development
The school stresses professional development and offers teachers a number of opportunities that include conferences, workshops, in-services and inquiry groups.
Employment
The school lists openings on the website. MIS attends the major recruiting fairs in Europe, North America and Asia. Most interviews are held at these fairs. About Munich
Munich is the capital of Bavaria and has a population of about 1.35 million. Munich is located on the northern edge of the Alps. The area has a continental climate which is modified by the closeness of the Alps. There is a lot of rain in the area and large differences in the temperature between night and day and summer and winter. Summers run from May through September with average temperatures around 23 degrees Celsius. January is the coldest month with average temperatures around -1 degree Celsius.
Munich has large populations of foreigners including Turks and Albanians. Close to 25% of the population are not German citizens.
Munich is a European cultural center. The city has the Bavarian State Opera, the Residenz Theatre and the Prinzregententheater where you can go to see your favorite operas. The city has three orchestras as well.
The city has an active night life with over 6,000 establishments licensed to serve alcohol. There are many discos and pubs around the city especially in the student quarter. If you like beer, sausages and pork, you’ll love Munich.
