Munich International School is an independent, co-educational school that provides educational services for students from age 4 to 18. It was founded in 1966. MIS is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools. MIS is an IB World School with authorization to use all three IB programmes.

Mission
The school mission is to provide an excellent education for “globally-minded” students.

Facilities
MIS has a 26-acre campus with a castle as its centerpiece near Lake Starnberg. Facilities included modern classrooms, large gyms, 2 libraries, an auditorium, a cafeteria, science labs, art and music rooms, tennis courts, a performing arts centre, sports fields, playgrounds, and a farm and garden. The three sections of the school have their own buildings.

Curriculum
The school has three sections: the Junior School, the Middle School and the Senior School. All lessons are delivered in English. MIS is an IB World School and use the IB framework for the school curriculum.

Extracurricular Activities
MIS has a wide range of extracurricular activities. These include choir, band, dance, debate, yearbook, ceramics, sports and community service. The Middle School and Senior School athletic teams participate in competitions around Europe.

The city has an active night life with over 6,000 establishments licensed to serve alcohol. There are many discos and pubs around the city especially in the student quarter. If you like beer, sausages and pork, you’ll love Munich.

International School of Hamburg

The International School of Hamburg is a private, co-education day school that provides educational services for students from Nursery through Grade 12. It was founded in 1957 and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools. ISH is an IB World School with authorization to use the IB Diploma Programme.

ISH has over 660 students that represent 40 nationalities.

Mission
The school’s mission is to help students develop their potential, learn to respect others and become personally responsible.

Facilities
ISH has an impressive looking state-of-the-art campus in Hemmingstedter Weg. Among the facilities are computer labs, science labs, modern classrooms, sports facilities, a library with over 40,000 volumes and an Early Childhood Centre. Surprisingly enough, for a school with such impressive looking facilities, the school website doesn’t have a special section on their facilities.

Curriculum
The school is organized into two sections: Junior School and Secondary School. The Junior School students use the International Primary School Curriculum. Students work in small groups organized on the basis of ability so that they can develop their full potential at an appropriate speed. Students in Grades 6-8 use a traditional Middle School approach with core classes and specials. The IB Diploma Programme is offered to students in Grade 11 and Grade 12. ISH has an EAL program for students who do not speak English as their first language. The school also offers special services for students with learning difficulties.

Extracurricular Activities
ISH has a wide range of activities including choir, computer club, drama, games, chess club, art club, ballet, Model United Nations, community service and more. The school is a member of the Northwest European Council of International Schools Sports Programme. Senior students can take part in competitive sports like basketball, soccer, volleyball, rugby, swimming, tennis and track and field. They compete against students from other schools around the region. The school also has an intramural sports program.

Technology
Students from Early Childhood on take ICT classes.

Bonn International School

Bonn International School is a private, co-educational day school that was founded in 1997. It provides educational services for students from ages 3-19. When the school was founded the faculty and students decided that they wanted a school that focused on positive language and values. Thus, the school culture centers around the Seven Respects. BIS is an IB World School with authorization to use all three IB programs. The school is also accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

BIS has about 650 students from over 60 countries. Class sizes are kept small with the average being 18 with a maximum of 22 students per class. There are 62 full time teachers and 10 part time teachers that represent 16 countries. The student: teacher ratio is 9.5 to 1.

Mission
The mission of the school is to lead students to become global citizens who are balanced, independent learners.

Facilities
The school is located in a suburb of Bonn. The Early Learning, Primary School and Secondary School are all housed in the same building complex on the banks of the Rhine River. The school is a green zone and has modern classrooms, laboratories, playing fields, and more.

Curriculum
BIS is an IB World School that uses all three IB programs. One of the main reasons that the school uses the IB curriculum is because it is suited for a “mobile international community.” In addition to the IB Diploma, students can graduate from the high school with an American high school diploma. BIS has English as an Added Language for students that need help with their English.

BIS is developing a laptop program, It has interactive whiteboards is every room along with computers and internet resources. 300 computers can be found around the school. BIS is currently using two platforms, but are in the process of moving to becoming an Apple school.

BIS is looking for teachers that have a minimum of two years experience and certification, in addition to being fluent in English and have strong communication skills. Teaching candidates also need to be committed to the school mission, and philosophy, as well as having experience with IB. Initial contracts are for two years. Vacancies are listed on the school website. BIS recruits at the major international fairs.

BIS uses a salary schedule, which is posted online in their recruitment brochure. Teachers with no experience start at 39,000 Euro; the maximum starting pay is 59,000 Euro. Teachers pay tax, health care and pension. A single teacher can expect to have 58% of their salary as disposable income.

About Bonn
Bonn was the capital of West Germany, the seat of government for unified Germany from 1990 to 1999, and is now designated as the Federal City even though the capital is now Berlin. Bonn is located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Bonn is home to many international organizations and institutions, as well as some of Germany’s major corporations.

Bonn is birthplace of Beethoven, although he hated the place.

Bavarian International School

Bavarian International School was opened in 1990 to serve the international community in the north of Munich. The school is a non-profit, co-educational day school providing educational services for students from Pre-Reception (age 4) through Grade 12. BIS is an IB World School with authorization to use all three IB programs. It is accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

BIS has over 750 students that represent over 43 nationalities. The main nationalities are: American, British, German, Italian, and Spanish. Class sizes are limited to 24 students.

Mission
The BIS mission is to inspire and challenge students to reach their personal and intellectual potentials.

Facilities
The school is housed in a renovated mansion along with purpose-built facilities for the lower school. Among the facilities are science and computer labs, libraries, and ICT room, music rooms, a 510-seat performing arts center and a sports hall. It is located in Haimhausen.

Curriculum
The school has three sections: the Lower School for Pre-Reception through Grade 5, the Middle School for Grades 6 through Grades8, and the Upper School for students from Grades 9 -12. In addition to the IB Diploma for senior students, BIS offers the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Examination program to Grade 9 and 10 students.

Extra Curricular Activities
BIS has a full extra-curricular program for students from Grade 1 though Grade 12. Among the offerings are: rock band, cheerleading, jazz dance, judo, drama, clubs, Brownies, dance, visual arts, yearbook, ballet, basketball, Chinese, academics, chess, Model United Nations, soccer, rugby, badminton, tennis, cross country, swimming, skiing and golf.

Technology is taught as a separate subject. Teachers are expected to be able to use technology effective to enhance learning.
